Ms. Lydia van Delft, Manager of Microbiology at FUSION, and her team offer a Scan 4000 testimonial exploiting the benefits of integrating the Scan 4000 into the pharmaceutical industry.

Fusion Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a clinical-stage oncology company focused on developing next-generation radiopharmaceuticals as precision medicines.

The company manufactures substances, i.e., Alpha particles emitting isotopes, with specific physical characteristics that target and kill tumor cells of cancerous patients. These particles travel only one to three cell lengths and create the conditions to specifically kill tumor cells of a cancerous patient.

Location: Hamilton, ON. CANADA

Works with: Scan 4000, end-point colony counter

Interview with Ms. Lydia van Delft, Manager of Microbiology at FUSION, and her team:

How does the Scan 4000 improve the validation process in your microbiological analysis?

Ms. Lydia van Delft and her team:

We use the Scan 4000 to count the number of colonies in our samples from environmental monitoring (EM) of cleanrooms and aseptic processes in radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

One of the main benefits is that the system is 21 CFR Part 11 compliant, and we don’t require a second person verification because the system stores secure evidence of counting data. This is extra important for a small team.

Moreover, the Interscience Scan 4000 colony counter can process a large number of plates accurately with stored results for each counted plate.

Why did you choose the Interscience Scan 4000?

Ms. Lydia van Delft:

The Scan 4000 eliminates the need for a second pair of eyes to verify counts as there is full traceability of each plate that was counted. It is faster and more accurate than the manual process.

What do you like most about the Scan 4000?

Ms. Lydia van Delft and her team:

We read 100 EM samples per week. We love the different light settings of the system because they are very helpful to see right through condensation that can occur on plates at times, and the barcode scanner helps us to reduce manual transcription errors and also helps us to save time. The Scan 4000 is easy to use and is 21 CFR Part 11 compliant.

Why choose Interscience?

Ms. Lydia van Delft and her team:

Interscience provides clear information about the products and a good understanding of the requirements for pharmaceutical laboratories.

How would you describe your experience with Interscience?

Ms. Lydia van Delft and her team:

The team at Interscience is easy to work with, the equipment delivery was very fast. The Interscience team always helps us when we have questions about the system (hardware & software). The easy communication with the Interscience team has been highly appreciated.

PROTOCOL OF ANALYSIS

Environmental Monitoring (EM) analysis of microbial isolates from cleanroom environments and growth promotion studies as per USP methods.

Number of analyses per day: 20 samples
Microorganisms analyzed: mostly bacterial isolates and, occasionally, molds. Moreover, growth promotion analyses.
Medium: TSA (Tryptic Soy Agar).
Colony counting: Scan 4000, automatic end-point colony counter.
