The Emerald Conference is the original and longest-running interdisciplinary event in the field of medical cannabis science. It is a forum for discussion of scientific discoveries, as well as how science and data support best practices in cultivation, production and quality assurance.

Sample preparation is an important step in the cannabis testing process to ensure reliable results. The legalization of cannabis in the U.S. started in 2012.

To date, the recreational and medicinal use of cannabis is fully legal for adults aged 21+ in 18 states, while it is only legal for medical use in 17 states.1 There are still several other states in which cannabis is fully illegal or where only CBD use is allowed.

With more companies researching the myriad uses of cannabis, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure the safety and quality of the products. The FDA is continuing to study the effects of cannabis and CBD on various conditions as well as the long-term effects the products may have on the human body. For that reason, laboratories that are engaging in the research and development of these unique products need to ensure not only the efficacy of the cannabis, but the safety and quality of the product as well to meet the FDA’s strict compliance guidelines. The compliance guidelines for medical versus recreational marijuana may be different in each state, territory and DC.

Sample prep can be key in accurate analysis.2 By implementing quality assurance testing, laboratories will be able to improve their sample prep processes as well as help prevent any compliance issues further along in the supply chain.

INTERSCIENCE has been developing and manufacturing innovative scientific equipment for microbiology for over 40 years, and our products have been used in cannabis laboratories for sample prep. Two such products make up the Dilute  &  Blend system, which is a winning combination to ensure accuracy and efficiency while avoiding risk of cross-contamination. The DiluFlow gravimetric dilutor is designed for the automatic dilution of a solid sample with the appropriate weight of diluent. Simply dilute your sample by pressing 2 keys, and the proper amount of buffer diluent is added to your sample. The Minimix 100 lab blender automatically homogenizes any solid sample in a sterile bag and allows safe and easy extraction of bacteria.
